Harmony Guaranteed, a quartet whose members are in the Sound of Illinois Chorus in Bloomington. The award is for an Illinois quartet that “has given significant, sustained service by its singing efforts.”
Quartet members are: Jim Waldorf, tenor; Kurt Gummerman, lead; Byron Blair, baritone; Tom Debord, bass. They have performed together for more than 22 years.
The nomination said the quartet “has entertained Central Illinois audiences with their humor, gracious service and fun-loving attitudes since August of 1990. With only one personnel change in the 1990s, this group has been a model of service for the (Bloomington) chapter, community and barbershop quartets. (The quartet) has coordinated Singing Valentines, provided learning tracks for chorus members, provided musical leadership for the Bloomington chapter, sang on nearly every chapter show and sing-out. … Over the last year (2012), Harmony Guaranteed appeared at the Central Illinois Youth In Harmony festival, Singing Valentines, the 70th Annual Bloomington Chapter Show, Coles County Afterglow, After Hours sendoff concert and many other engagements.
Harmony Guaranteed is the second Bloomington quartet to earn this award. This first was Homemade Harmony in 2004: Larry Finger, tenor; Dick Eade, lead; Stan Johnson, baritone; Ron Friese, bass.
